So the great thing about scrapbooking is that it fosters the most supportive and congenial social network. I joined a Facebook group sponsored by a fellow scrapbooker Victoria Marie. Besides having one of the best sense of humors I have ever encountered, she is incredibly talented. Link to Victoria Marie Blog. As part of the Victoria Maria FB Group we are given weekly challenges. A few months ago, we were given a sketch challenge. And I decided to play along using paper from one of my fall 2015 Scraptastic Kits and additional supplies from the fall inspired Simple Stories Pumpkin Spice collection. I grabbed my favorite photo from my recent Ireland trip, traipsing around the Whitlock Mountains and came up with a fun layout.
Layout: In order to work with my design story, I flipped the sketch 90 degrees counter clockwise. Other than that, I tried to stay close to the sketch but traipsed off the path when the inspiration hit me. Of course the floral paper in the Pumpkin Spice collection inspired me to pull out my floral stamps and die cut cuts that are used as embellishments in place of the circle detail in the sketch. My favorite part of the layout is the brown circle stitching underneath the floral embellishment clusters. It just added the perfect amount of texture and additional design element.
I hope you enjoyed checking it out as much as I enjoyed putting it together. Thanks for stopping by. More to Come, Celia!

I have been sitting on a couple of layouts that I need to share with all you all– my small scrappy but very loyal following! And yes, I know it is January 2016 and I am sharing a September 2015 sketch challenge but I sometimes really suck at this #aboutthisbloglife. I endeavor to force myself to get better about sharing as part of my 2016 scrappy goals. Coming back to this space to be creative helps to calm the left brain beast that is my adult grown up work life. So thank you to my small following – which I am pretty sure mostly includes my scrappy friends and my mother! Here is to hoping for more followers of other crazy addicted crafters in the upcoming year.
Since I have become enamored with sketches, I get super excited to stretch my creative legs and add to this scrappy improv of sketch with and some’um else- whether it be limiting myself to a color scheme, a kit or, in this case, a collection, just a little something something to spice up this sketch game. For this turn on the improv wheel, I stuck with the sketch design and made use of the very popular I Am Collection from Simple Stories. With some pictures thrown in from my first day of my Stockholm travels last May, this was super fun layout to make. So sit back and I hope you enjoy the show.
Thanks for joining me. More to come. Celia

I am sucker. I can admit it gleefully and happily. I cannot get enough of the Fancy Pants collections. The Meology collection is a perfect example of a mix of typography, florals and graphic design that leads to scrapbook magic. Like most of the 2014 Fancy Pants collections, the Meology collection had Brag Cards which worked perfectly with the November Sketch challenge. I added some interest to the top portion of the layout with a slant to highlight the black/white typography. Paired up some Copic colored florals with a flower punch and to unite the floral brights on a diagonal.
I wanted to pop in to share the layout I did for the July Sketch Challenge with my Scraptastic July Kit. I stuck pretty close to the actual sketch this time around with only a couple of design deviations that actually work better for my pictures, patterned paper and embellishments. This sketch is probably one of my favorites I have done so far because it just allowed me to incorporate all of my favorite layout design elements.
The rose floral stamps are an older Die-Namics die and stamp set that I recently discovered and it has quickly become one of my favorite to incorporate in my crafting. I have some other Wrapped Up Wednesday ideas that these stamps and dies will be making another appearance so stay tuned. Thank you for stopping by. More to come. Celia

Yes, it is true folks. I have become a sucker for sketches. This sketch contest was definitely a different turn for me because it was a complete deviation of my scrappy style. But when the pictures are right, the story is true and the patterned paper is bright then no sketch can get in my way. So I am calling this one a win.

The one thing I love about sketches is that they force you to think about layout and embellishment placement differently. The Pagemaps sketches tend to be way more linear than how I usually scrap. Plus, I am a bit of a layer fanatic and as such I tend to have lots of elements overlapping and touching. This Sketch challenge required me to throw all of my preconceived layout notions out the window and get down with a grid design.
The Sketch:The Layout:
The Details: The top design of the sketch gave me the most trouble. I figured it was a design element that was cut in a grid but I decided on a different take. First, I added an additional small photo. Only reason was because she just looks so incredibly precious. Second, I altered a Silhouette Studio Design 3×4 card into an approximate 4 by 5.5 card (exact same size as the larger photo below). Third, I layered a journal pocket on top and made it a design element which really makes the top design of the layout pop. And we cannot forget my sojourn into the world of watercolors and gelatos to paint the die cut flowers. In order to make those beautiful flowers, I die cut them using watercolor paper and then just spent sometime channeling Monet.

Here we are again, taking layout design cues and, I confess, it feels so right. I have been bouncing around looking at different sketch challenge blogs. The one that I have been stalking for quite awhile is Sketchabilities. The design team is fantastic and the variation on the sketches makes the bossing me around not so bad.
So instead of stalking, I decided to come out of the closet and plunge right into the Sketchabilties #106 sketch challenge.
I fussy cut the poinsettias from the October Afternoon paper.
(Apologize for the quality of the pictures it was rainy and dark the last couple of days and could not get any good daylight shots.)
Thank you for stopping by. More to come, Celia.
